Earlier I mentioned recording two "covers" of songs from the movie "Wild in the Streets." To be perfectly honest, none of us had seen the movie when we did the recording (it hadn't been released yet). So the idea of doing "covers" of something no one had heard seemed weird (still does). But anyway, we had these two songs, were working with Vic Briggs, lead guitarist with Eric Burton and the Animals (who would produce our album), and with some amazing studio musicians.
At this point we were "Future" - just the three Jims (Bunnell, Burdine and Odom),, and Wally of course, so we had to supplement ourselves musically - at least bass, drums and lead guitar.
"Fifty-two Percent"
"Fifty-two Percent" is the "story line" song from the movie "Wild in the Streets." The basic idea is that "less than 30's" had become the dominant for economically and now were trying to take over politically. So this is their "anthem." Mike Deasy plays some of the best lead guitar of that style I've ever heard. Truly a gifted musician.
It's also some of Bunnell's best vocal work, blending singing with narrative. Jim Odom and I did the backing vocals.
"Shape of Things to Come"
"Shape of Things to Come" is the other cover song from Wild in the Streets.
Also some great guitar work. Love Bunnell's vocal on the bridge especially. Vic Briggs played the long sustain notes on guitar in the intro and at the end. Guitar solo is Mike Deasy again.
